I'm sure I'm not the first person to bring up something like this... but, I must conclude that art hosting sites are, by nature, liars. Other than the fact that they all seem to start out encouraging adult art and then subsequently ban it, there's the names. I consider names very important: it is the very first layer of the object in consideration.

So... deviantart does not allow much that would be called deviant, and certainly doesn't encourage anything deviant. Aparently they believe photography is the hallmark of deviation. Funny, though, when I look in a dictionary under deviant perverse sexual acts are always listed.

Perhaps deviant describes the self-important rambling they put with the suggested work, which frankly has a tendancy to be lame. Like I just saw one for a poem called "Big" (let's ignore that my suggested piece on an art site was a poem), and whoever posted it up was going on about the subtle briliance and how it was already inside each of us. Come on... I've studied poetry extensively. That was just a bunch of coffe house crap (not the poem, the review).

Then there's Sheezyart. Sheezy, as I understand, has some sort of meaning revolving around shit or sex or something. Well, now that they banned porn only shit gets posted... but they've banned all porn. True, this had to do with one of their servers and their advertisers, because Sheezy was clearly breaking the TOS of both for some time. Either they didn't read the TOS or they purposefully broke it, both of which make them suck.

Anyway, it's annoying especially because the name is the one thing that doesn't change to illustrate the site's true nature. Everything else becomes this family friendly bullshit, but the name still claims to be deviant. It's like if you called the boyscouts the Hitler Youth of America. That's false advertising. It's bad enough that these sites pull a proverbial bait-and-switch by pulling in skilled artists who want a place to post adult works, and then take that away from them. They have a legal right to do so, but it's still dishonest and we still have a right to give them the finger.
